According to a poll released onMonday, China will become the world's most important centers forinnovation by 2020, more than both the U.S. and Japan.
China is already the world's second largest economy inestablishing itself as the world's manufacturing workshop. Now, itshould be moving up the value chain by leading in invention aswell.
Fast forward 10 years, however, according to 6,000 people insix countries and pharmaceutical companies to investigate, 27% ofpeople think that China will be the top dog, India with 17%, theUnited States 14% and Japan 12%.
This change is not because the U.S. is less of a science andtechnology, but because countries such as China and India are doingmore.
From the research shows that China is now the second largestproducer of scientific papers after the United States, and researchand development (R & D) expenditure in the Asia group of $387billion in 2008, compared with $384 billion in the United Statesand $ 280 million in Europe.
